Embercast 0.3.20: the Nate hop, smaller rings and your replays back

Embercast 0.3.20 is out for Windows and Mac.

First, a shot I have to share. This is the first double tap I've seen in Embercast: send the ember at the ring, chase it down, and tap it again in the air to put it in.

Nathan found something this week that we've been calling the Nate hop. Jump, jump again in the air, then tap boost over and over instead of holding it. Energy refilled in the gaps between taps, so you could fly around the court more or less forever. It was clever and it broke the game, so I had to patch it.

Energy now waits three quarters of a second after you boost, sprint or tackle before it starts to refill. Holding boost works exactly like before. The Nate hop still works, but it drains your bar now, so you get a burst of flight instead of an endless one. Thanks for finding it, Nathan.

The rings are a little smaller, down from 10 to 8. Here is the same wizard standing in front of the old ring and the new one.

Every steal now costs energy, including stealing the ember back before you let go of the button. I also fixed a bug where a steal you couldn't afford went through a moment later anyway.

Last time I said your online matches were saved on Embercast's servers and that getting them back into the game was coming next. It's here. Sign in, open your replays and choose Restore from Embercast to download any of your online matches that aren't on this computer, one at a time or all at once.

Saving a whole match as a video is about twice as fast, and there is a new 720p option when you want it even quicker.

Right now you pick an arena from a menu. Eventually I want every arena to be a real place in the Kingdom. You'd walk out to the Forest Court, see that a match is on, and stand at the edge to watch. The Kingdom is going to get an overworld, and the courts will be part of it.
